Athletic update for Sunday, February 22:
On Friday, the competitive cheer team traveled to Addison to participate in the MHSAA District #20. The Comets placed fourth to advance to the regional competition. The MHSAA Regional will take place on Saturday, Feb 28, at Novi high school at 3:00.
The bowling teams competed at the MHSAA D4 Individual Tournament on Saturday at JAX60. The teams had three girls and three boys advance to the MHSAA State Finals on Saturday, Feb 28, at Skore Lanes in Taylor. For the girls, junior Harper James was 3rd, sophomore Morgan Dilyard was 4th and freshman Karli Wittingen was 5th. For the boys, senior Kyle Covey was 2nd, senior Marshall Baker was 5th and sophomore Maverick Baker was 6th.
On Saturday, the wrestling team took senior Blake Ryan, junior Noah Knepfler, sophomore Max Young and freshman Briggs Baker to compete at the MHSAA D4 Individual Regional at Martin high school. At the end of the day, it was Blake Ryan placing 4th to qualify for the MHSAA Individual State Finals at Ford Field, March 6-7.
The girls basketball MHSAA D3 district bracket was finalized this morning for March 2-4-6 . The Comets will compete at Quincy high school. Other teams in the district include Hudson, Quincy, Homer and Hillsdale. The team earned a bye for March 2 and will play on March 4 at 7:00 against Homer. The championship game will take place on March 6 at 7:00.
The varsity boys basketball district will take place February 23, 25, 27 at Hillsdale high school. Jonesville is the #1 seed and will receive a bye for the first round and will play on Wednesday, Feb 25, at 5:30 against the winner of the Hudson-Addison game. The championship game will be Feb 27 at 7:00.
Per MHSAA guidelines, all tickets for all state tournament dates must be purchased through GoFan. No passes are allowed and cash is not accepted.

It has been an outstanding season to date for Coach Molinaro, Coach Sackett, Coach Davis and the members of the girls and boys team!
The girls team is currently ranked #2 in the MHSAA D4 poll. The team won the Cascades Conference Championship last weekend heading into today's MHSAA Team Regional Tournament at JAX60. The MHSAA post season tournaments are in full swing moving forward.
The wrestling team had four of its wrestlers advance from last Saturday's Individual District tournament to this Saturday's Individual Regional tournament at Martin High School. Congrats to Blake Ryan for finishing second, Briggs Baker and Max Young for finishing third and Noah Knepfler for finishing fourth. Wrestling starts at 10:30 am on Saturday. The men’s basketball program is having a Military Appreciation Night on Dec 5. We will be keeping it simple this year and will look to expand the event heading into the future. Free admission for active military and to our veterans. The varsity team will wear a camo style shooting shirt. At the conclusion of the varsity warm up, we will ask all veterans and active military to line the sidelines and baselines for the National Anthem to be sung by junior Amelia Trine.

The varsity football team travels to Bronson today, October 31, for a 7:00pm showdown. Per MHSAA guidelines, all tickets must be purchased through GoFan.co and no passes of any kind are allowed. Visitor seating is limited, so feel free to bring lawn chairs. The field is not very handicap accessible. If you know of a spectator who needs accommodations, Bronson can allow them to park inside the complex. Please have someone notify the Bronson athletic director of their arrival, and they will ensure they are let in. Artificial noisemakers are NOT allowed.
The State Finals for boys and girls cross country are tomorrow, November 1, at MIS Saturday. Girls D3 run at 10:10, boys at 11:30. Entrance opens at 7:30. Tickets are $11 per person though GoFan.co. Parking is included in that price.
The volleyball team will be competing in the District tournament at Hillsdale High School next week. On Monday, November 3, the girls will play Hillsdale at 5:00. With a Monday victory, they would play on Wednesday, November 5, at 5:00 against Hanover-Horton. A victory over Hanover-Horton would place us into the finals on Friday, November 7, at 6:00. Per MHSAA guidelines, no passes are allowed and ticket must be purchased through GoFan.co.

Radio/Tape Players: These items are prohibited at MHSAA tournaments. Personal style players and radios are permitted so long as the sound is restricted to the listening of an individual.

On the other side of the District bracket, it is Union City traveling to Hanover-Horton. The winners will play on November 7 or 8.

The Lady Comets put forth a great effort, but fell short of qualifying as a team, placing 4th. 2 girls were All-Region (top 15), and 3 qualified for the State Finals. Keira Knight placed 13th with a PR of 20:57. Teammate Brynleigh Griffiths was 14th (21:07). Joleane Gulledge was an additional State qualifier, placing 16th with a PR of 21:09. Mia Langhann had a PR of 22:21, placing 37th. Addy Horton also PR’d, placing 42nd in 22:36. Sophia Morgan ran a PR for 54th (23:08). Alexa Moore was 69th (24:06).
On the boy’s side it was a dogfight. 6 points separated 3rd from 1st place. The Comet boys finished 3rd, qualifying for the fourth year in a row as a team to the State Finals with Coach Snyder and Coach Copp at the helm. 4 runners were all region (top 15). Leading the charge was junior Caleb Blonde, who conquered the course in 15:50, becoming Regional Champion. Nick Fowler was 7th (16:26), Collin Fucile 8th (16:29), Ashton Potwin 15th (16:51). Briggs Baker 41st (18:11). Jake Gray was 50th (18:30). Eli Norman 69th (19:04).

Today, Friday, October 17, marks the end of an era for Jonesville football. The Comets will play their last varsity regular season game on our current field against Vandercook Lake. The current field is close to 75 years old.
It will be Senior night for our band, cross country teams, sideline cheer team and football team with those introductions taking place before the game at 6:30. Parents - please meet in the southeast corner of the field at 6:20 to get lined up. At halftime, the band will play their halftime show. Following that, we will have the Patricia Krohn Memorial Award presentation. After that presentation, we will honor longtime varsity football coach Greg Morrison on his induction into the Michigan Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past summer. We are asking anyone who played or coached with Coach Morrison to join him and his family on the field for the presentation. Former players and coaches - please meet inside the fence at the south endzone.
