The kids played holiday BINGO where they yelled out a Christmas related phrase and then won a book the first time and a Christmas item for the second BINGO. The kids worked on figuring area with the glow tape and after that they played rolling products with some glow dice. It is safe to say that they had a very fun day before their Christmas break!

Ms. VanMeter did a math/budgeting lesson using gingerbread houses. Students earned "money" where they then wrote checks to purchase the supplies they wanted for their gingerbread houses. We thank all of our families that donated items to this! When we come together like this, students are able to have special learning experiences. Thank you to the families and Ms. VanMeter for such a great, and messy(!), idea!

Mr. Anderson's 5th grade classroom is using their knowledge about forces, motion, and engineering design to build a paper roller coaster track. Students spent time making folds in the paper for supports (columns/beams/diagonal supports), straight tracks, curved tracks, and also for loops and funnels. We are testing our tracks out this week with our marbles!

Jonesville Community Schools sends its condolences to Oxford Schools for the tragedy they suffered. There are no words that can take away the pain and hurt to those who lost loved ones and the injured. After tragedies such as this, it’s normal to try to find out the “why” . Unfortunately, there isn’t always one clear answer. What I do know is, we can all check in on our family and friends. If someone is hurting please let someone know. Tell a teacher, principal, family member etc know because it truly does take a community. The Comet community extends its thoughts and prayers to Oxford Schools. In Sympathy, Erik Weatherwax Superintendent, Jonesville Community Schools

Students in Mrs. Rogers' 4th grade classroom were able to watch a movie and enjoy popcorn as part of our *PBIS Acknowledgement system. *Every day students have the opportunity to earn tickets by showing Comet P.R.I.D.E. (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, Encouragement) or for doing something that an adult would like to recognize as being done well. Students can then use their ticket(s) to enter drawings, either as an individual in the classroom, or for the chance to win an experience for their entire classroom.

Students in Mrs. Hardway's 4th grade classroom recently visited the U.S. Capitol through a virtual fieldtrip. Mrs. Hardway shared, "This field trip to the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. was especially fun because the students were very excited about "traveling" to the home of our Government and the President. It was especially rewarding for me to see how much they remembered from our lessons, videos, and games. The questions they asked even stumped one of the presenters. I had no idea that people have attempted to change our Constitution over 11,500 times." What a great experience for our students! Thank you, Mrs. Hardway for making this happen.

Mrs. Snyder's 3rd grade class completed a virtual field trip this week about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students learned about Tony Sarg. They watched videos on blowing the balloons up, making balloon animals, and creating a float in a design room! Then they listened to the book Balloons Over Broadway (The true story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade). Finally, they put their engineering skills to work and built their own balloons. The class created some array buildings in math and walked their balloon through the town! Overall, the kids were excited about the topic and their classroom parade.
