Comet Cruiser Update:
We are now a little over halfway in our Comet Cruisers Running Program. Students participating have received postcards from Traverse City, Tawas City, Grand Rapids, Holland, and the Keweenaw Peninsula. These students are running around 20 minutes 3 days a week and doing workouts two days a week. This is a huge commitment and we are proud of them.
On Saturday, our runners had the opportunity to run a 2.5K to support the American Legion of Hillsdale and Key Opportunities. We had 6 students and their families participate. We had a great showing. Our girl runners took 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in their age group. Great job Julia Mandrelle, Addison Horton, Mary Mandrelle, and Sydney Horton. Our boy runners took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in their age group. Awesome running Mason Dunlap, Justin Mandrelle, and Kota Stroble. It was great to see them show their Comet Pride and complete the run.
If you see our young runners out and running with their families in the community, give them a wave and shout of encouragement!

From Williams Elementary School:
As we wrapped up March is Reading Month and reading the book The Adventures of a South Pole Pig together as a school, we had a generous donation from County National Bank allowing us to treat our students to ice cream treats (Since we read about Antarctica, we though a "cold" treat was perfect)!
The only catch was, they had to figure out how much it was going to cost for their ice cream, the classroom's ice cream, and the cost for the entire school! What a way to be financially literate... even at a young age. The kids learned a lot and enjoyed the treat.

From Williams Elementary:
We had a great turnout for our first week "Run Through Michigan." Many students completed the "Traverse City" challenge and received their postcard today!
This week: we are heading across the lower peninsula to visit Tawas City on Lake Huron. Tawas City has one of the largest harbors on Lake Huron.
Thank you to all the cities who donated the postcards for each of our cities! We appreciate your support of our new program.

From Williams Elementary School:
This morning we had a special visitor Zoom with Mrs. Snyder's 3rd grade class for WORLD READ ALOUD DAY! Sandra Markle reached out to Mrs. Snyder and asked if she could read to her class. She read parts of her book WHAT IF YOU COULD SNIFF LIKE A SHARK? (See picture). After reading she spent a few minutes answering questions.
Sandra Markle was a teacher, she was Ms. Whiz demonstrating science on local television in Georgia, and she has worked with CNN, PBS, and even Nickelodeon.
This is a once in a lifetime experience for them as 3rd graders and Sandra told them that they were the ONLY class that she was reading to today.
