“CREATE”
Community Wind Chime Garden
A Creative Collaboration
“CREATE” - to cause to come into existence; bring into being;
make; originate; esp., to make or design something requiring
art, skill, invention, etc.
Jonesville High School Advanced Art Class collaborated to
create an amazing sculpture. The plaster hand sculptures
spell out the theme using American Sign Language to
fingerspell the word CREATE. Each artist applied their own
creativity to design a wind chime with unique materials that
tells a story visually and also uses motion and sound. The
artists then solved together how to construct and display with
balance, repetition, and thought given to all of the
organizational principles of design and elements of art.
Thank you to County National Bank for this opportunity and
support of the arts and our artists.

J.H-S Robotics V2X Team 2023-2024
After a terrific season of learning about coding, programming, and designing and testing many different robot kits, our first JHS Square One V2X (Vehicle to Everything) Competition Team competed alongside 23 other school from all over Michigan at Oakland Community College Friday, April 12th, 2024.
Senior Carter Lawson and Junior Chad Wickham II brought their autonomous rover named Comet Crusher to tackle exhibition tasks at Square One's inaugural in-person V2X competition. Since September, the team has met on Wednesdays at lunch and after school to put their coding and programming skills together with their skills at building and testing robot kits to create a robot that could autonomously navigate an increasingly difficult set of tasks. The Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie tasks were completed and videotaped, then uploaded to the competition judges starting in March. Other required tasks completed and uploaded by March 28th included creating a team Expense Report, Project Synopsis, Engineering Journal, and Team Presentation (the Infographic). Our team earned awards (and trophies) out of 23 competing schools for 2nd place with their Engineering Journal- a chronicle of the season's work efforts and 1st place for the Team Presentation Infographic!
The team's goal for outreach this year included a visit and Rover Naming Contest with JCS's 2nd grade Comets on March 18th. The visit to the Elementary included former team members junior Bret Cole and sophomore Brookie Lewis. Our four 2nd grade Comet classrooms each nominated a name for the team's V2X Rover, and the vote by each student and teacher on the 18th yielded the overwhelming new rover name Comet Crusher! The team awarded the winning classroom a whole basket of treats, and members really enjoyed interacting with the students while presenting their rover work this year and information about building/testing robots!
The team would like to thank our sponsors for helping us have a terrific first Square One Robotics Competition Season- thanks to Jonesville Community Schools, Jilly Beans Too, and Jonesville Community Schools Transportation Department!! The team will continue their outreach work next with Mrs. Warner for the Science Night next Thursday (4/25), a local Girl Scouts troop presentation, and creating a social media presence to help get more students and families involved with robotics at Jonesville Community Schools.
